5 Disastrous Side Effects of E-Cigarettes

The particles you inhale while having an e-cigarette can cause inflammation (swelling) and irritation in your lungs.

It can lead to lung damage like scarring and narrowing of the tubes that bring air in and out of your lungs.

Researchers don’t yet know the effects vaping can have on your body.

Here are five disastrous side effects of e-cigarettes:

1. Respiratory Matters: Chemicals and small particles in e-cigarette aerosols can irritate the lungs and cause coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. Sometimes called "vaping-associated lung injury."

2. Nicotine Dependence: Many e-cigarettes contain addictive nicotine. Nicotine-containing e-cigarettes can cause nicotine addiction, making it hard to quit and perhaps leading to tobacco use.

3. Cardiovascular Impact: Blood pressure and heart rate can rise with e-cigarette nicotine, increasing cardiovascular risk. Over time, it may cause heart problems.

4. Dental Issues: Aerosols from e-cigarettes can damage teeth. Dry mouth, gum inflammation, and discomfort may result. Flavor desensitization, or "vaper's tongue," has been documented in certain users.
